Special Info  Mavis Morris, “Aunt Mavis”, “Nana” was born on October 8, 1940; the fourth of five siblings. She was educated in Barbados and eventually moved to England to continue her education in Nursing. In 1969, Mavis moved to the United States in pursuit of better employment opportunities and because it allowed her easier access to her family still in Barbados. She landed a position at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. As education was always important to her, Mavis earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. Joseph College, Brooklyn, NY. Mavis excelled to Head of Nursing of the Intensive Care Unit where she retired in 2000. Mavis was passionate about education and helping others. In her post retirement, Mavis continued to educate others in healthcare. She served on the Health Committee at the Presbyterian Church of St. Albans, where she was a member for over 25 years. Mavis also accompanied church members and members of the community to their medical appointments. She joined the Women of Grace (Liturgical Dancers) as well as On One Acchord, a steel drum band. Mavis also learned to play the violin, saxophone, guitar and continued her study of the piano. Additionally, Mavis loved to knit and her love for gardening inspired her neighbors. Mavis was a founding member of Global Evangelistic Ministries where she served as a Deacon, Church Nurse and Secretary for the Council. Mavis Morris will be remembered for her exemplary and strong faith, boundless energy and tireless efforts to help others. Mavis would often say, “God don’t want no fools in His Kingdom” and she would do her part by always inspiring, coaching and educating; particularly young people. On Friday, July 5th, 2019, Mavis went on to be with her Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories her adopted children: Ingrid and Mario; her granddaughter: Sharise; her brothers and sister: Everton, Esmay, and Carlysle; her sister-in-law: Dondru; her dear friends: Carmen and Ermin; her nephews and nieces: Danny, Cheryl, Ricardo, Carlos, Terese, Brian, and Kyle; her goddaughters and godson: Michelle, Joy, Everett, and Amy.
