Obituary
Diego Duane Dunkley, 30, of Jamaica, New York, Beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friends went home to be with his heavenly father on January 14, 2021.
Born in Jamaica, West Indies, on July 5, 1990, he was the third child of Claudette Downer and Michael Dunkley. He was diagnosed with autism at 2 years old. He went to school there and came to America at 16 years old.
He went to PS224 where he learn to cook, art, and other subjects. He would sing and dance and performed in a group call "Diego and the dangerous Divas". He enjoyed himself. He then graduate and then went to Qsac, Centre for autism for Adults where everyone cheered him on. He had issues which everyone tried to help him.
Diego, was a quiet boy, a loving child who love to socialize with people, he loved girls. He would introduce himself to the girls “I am Diego Dunkley, what is your name?” and when they answered, he would be very happy and proud of himself.
He loved food, especially pizza, he loved music, especially reggae music, he remembered his roots. He played games, and would be on his computer all day, he could do anything, if you teach him ,he was smart. He took pictures of himself, with his two fingers in the air, this was his signature mark of peace, he was happy. He walked in his community, everyone knew him and he had friends who loved him, look out for him, give him food, money and kind words, and prayed with him. he knew who to turn to when he needed a friend.
He will be missed & cherished always by his mother Claudette Downer, brothers, Xavier Dunkley and Michael Barrett, sister, Tanieka Dunkley, grandmother, Olive Downer, Uncles Ronald Downer and Neville Downer, Aunty Joan and cousins. In the Jamaica, West Indies, father Michael Dunkley, Grandma Elva Dunkley, Uncle Bruce Dunkley, Aunty Jacqui Thompson and Uncle Duane Thompson and cousins.
