Special Info  Cassita Meleta Rattigan (aka: KC, Cassy, and Grandma) was born in Clarendon, Jamaica to James McFarlane and Francella Stevenson (nee Rowe) on September 30, 1922. Cassita migrated to Kingston, where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Cassita met and married the late Cyril Rattigan on December 11, 1960. Cassita was a great homemaker, helped to raise many of her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Cassita loved to cook and the aroma of her food made your mouth water. Cassita’s specialty was baking and we all can recall her puddings, cakes, and the “oh so yummy Rock Bun”. Whenever Cassita knew that one of her family members were coming to visit, she made sure to make that person’s favorite food. Her late husband, Cyril, preceded her in death in 1975 and on August 17, 1976, Cassita migrated to the United States to live with her daughter, Brenda, and her children. While living in the States, Cassita worked as a caregiver for many years, who lovingly cared for the elderly, until she retired. After retirement, Cassita travelled back and forth to Jamaica, a place she loved, until she was no longer able to do so. Cassita loved the Lord and serving was a large part of her life. Cassita was always singing, worshipping, and praying. While growing up, Cassita’s children and grandchildren knew that prayer was at 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., every day no matter what. Cassita taught us as children to have faith in God and to love the Lord. Cassita also encouraged her family members, who were not saved, to repent and give themselves to the Lord. Cassita was a devoted member of The First United Church family and she attended church regularly until she was no longer able to do so. Cassita touched many lives over the years with her hospitality, kindness, humor, and affectionate spirit. Cassita had a great love for her church family of which many can attest. Although Cassita could no longer attend church, she looked forward to the visits from Brother Trevor and Sister Hyacinth Haye. Cassita’s face would light up when she was told that The Haye’s would be visiting her. Cassita went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Cassita leaves behind 3 daughters, Brenda, Joan, and Thelma, 1 son-in-law, Rowan, 12 grandchildren, Dawn, Floyd, Michael, Martin, Jennifer, Ann-Marie, Angelee, Gregory, Guiliano, Nicola, Ruth, and Brian; 12 great grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, Sean, Armani, Aiden, Rhyan, Juliet, Aaliyah, Ava, Elijah, Logan and Berkley Jr., and 1 Great-great grandchild, Saint. Cassita will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. We were blessed to have her in our lives. Sleep in Peace Cassy.
