Special Info  On July 4, 1951, Valerie was born to the late James and Deaconess Christine J. Brocks, in Brooklyn, New York. “Michele with one “L” is a middle name she chose when she was baptized to replace a nickname her mom had given her as a baby. She had one brother Robert James Ware through her dad’s lineage, who also preceded her in death. She was educated in the New York public school system and graduated in 1973 from Herbert H. Lehman College with a B.A. in Biology. She was employed at Hoffmann-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals as a scientist in Biological Research for almost 20 years. Evangelist Valerie M. Brocks whose favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6 was dedicated and raised in the Brown Memorial Baptist Church. As a young girl she marched over from Herkimer St. to it present location at 484 Washington Avenue. At Brown Memorial, she was a faithful Sunday School student, Brownie & Girl Scout, Young Adult Ushers, Young Adult Choir member and a junior missionary. In 1971, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 20 in Newport News, Va. She was a student and later a Bible instructor at the Tabernacle of Prayer for All People under Apostle Johnny L. Washington, Sr. and ordained as an Elder under Apostle Ira Davidson, Sr. where she ministered at the New York Deliverance Gospel Temple. She taught the Teen Senior High Sunday School class at Brown Memorial and at Tabernacle of Prayer. She established and directed various choirs including the Sunday School and Noon Day Hour of Power Choir at Brown, various Outreach Street Teams and Evangelistic Film Ministries. Valerie loved praying for and sharing the Good News of God’s Word with people. She was an Associate Minister of the “Bible Speaks” radio broadcast and traveled to Kenya, East Africa; Jamaica West Indies; Guyana, South America; and across the United States of America. Her greatest works were in prison Ministry right here at home. She worked tirelessly to introduce Christ to the inmates at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, the Sullivan Correctional Facility for Men, including David Berkowitz, known as the infamous Son of Sam. The Evangelist also preached on the streets of Times Square 42nd Street, New York, Patterson, New Jersey and established and ministered in various Tape, CD, and Video ministries to fulfill her calling as an Evangelist. Evangelist Brocks worked for years with the Rev. Jackie McCullough, establishing with others her tape, video, and magazine ministries and was further trained in the “Excellence of Ministry” as Rev. McCullough loved to say. Valerie lived a full balanced life. She loved her Lord, Jesus Christ. She loved to pray. She loved Wednesday, Noon Day Service. She loved fishing …. FROM DRY LAND. She loved WNBA Basketball especially the New York Liberty. She loved to travel especially by Amtrak train. But anyone who knew Valerie, knew she really, really loved to listen to all types of music. Whenever food was needed for an event, you could on Valerie to bring the sodas! Often saying, “I know how to stay in my lane- and the kitchen is not it!” Evangelist Brocks’ memory will held and cherished by her cousins Katrina LeCounte, Reginald E.(daughter-Skyelar) LeCounte, Rossetta Garrett, and Quilla Williams.
