Special Info  Charles Smith (fondly known as Snuffy, and Charlie) was born November 3, 1952 in Trenton, South Caroline to Fletcher & Lethella Smith. He was the fourth of nine children. Charles along with his parents and siblings relocated to Jamaica Queens NY in 1957. He attended elementary school in South Jamaica, NY, and attended high school and later got his G.E.D. Charles married Mary Pamela Robinson in 1980 along with her two children Alisha Renee James and Ronald Eugene Brown. He was trained and worked as a shoe maker and was good at making and repairing shoes. Later he was trained as a plumber and used his skills for many years. He also worked in his latter years as a Building Maintainer for Mr. Groovy who he loved like a father and Mr. Groovy treated him as well as a son. Charles was very compassionate in helping the community, he served in the food pantry, did home improvement and construction, he was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed helping others who were not able to do for themselves. At an early age he was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist church Jamaica Queens NY. In his latter years he attended Mt. Moriah AME church in Cambria Heights, NY He was a joy to be around. He always had a kind word or a story or a joke to share to brighten the day. Charles took time to learn the finer things in life, through reading and research. His reading took him into all parts of the world that he couldn't travel. He would give you details of a place in the world, and you would think he had actually visited the place. He was very knowledgeable and if he told you something he knew what he was talking about. You could fact check him and never find him wrong. Charles was a man who would tell you that a fine watch was a time piece, and Oh how he loved his alligator shoes and his Fedora hats. Many of us considered him a borderline genius that was our Charlie (aka Snuffy Smith). One of his favorite sayings was "Hey Baby". Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Pamela Smith, Fletcher Smith (father), Willie J. and Sammie L. Smith (brothers). He left to cherish his memory, daughter Alisha R. James, and son Ronald E. Brown, 6 grandsons and 1 great granddaughter along with his mother Lethella Smith, 4 sisters Bettye Fielding (Gary Fieldings), Gladys Smith ( late James P. Smith) Michelle Smith-Jones, Stacey Smith-Brown (late Oliver Brown) 2 brothers, Calvin Smith and Darnell F. Smith (Donna Smith) Uncle George Smith (Mazelle Smith) Aunt Frances Corley (late Pat Corley) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co- workers, devoted friends, including childhood friends from South Carolina. Charles was called home to glory on January 6, 2022. He will be missed by his family and all, but we know that we will meet again. The road may have been lumpy along the way, but the Lord, saw him through it all. To God be the glory for all that he has done in Charles's life.
