Our beloved Kelvin Eduardo “Wado” aka “Country” Hughes, 58, transitioned from this world during the early morning hours of November 5, 2022, at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York. Wado was born on July 24, 1964, in South Boston, Virginia to James and the “late” Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Hughes. Wado grew up in Grifton, North Carolina, where he touched lives and made many lifelong friends. He moved to New York in 1979 at the age of 15 where he lived until his passing. Wado attended Springfield High School in Queens NY and was employed at New York’s Parks and Recreation until 2017 when he began to experience health challenges. It was at this job where he met his beloved sweetheart and life partner, Ms. Shariss Turner, who made the remaining years of his life an absolute joy. He will be remembered for many things, but most of all for his ability to make those around him laugh with his comedic banter. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother. He is survived by his father James Hughes of Yanceyville, North Carolina; his children, De'Trelle Hughes, Amityville, New York; twins, Shaquan and Cheyenne Hughes, Spring, Texas; his siblings and their spouses, Dr. Cynthia B. Dodd, Mililani, Hawaii; Larry D. Hughes, Jamaica, New York; Illa L. Galloway and Roy Crowder, Staten Island, New York; David and Sherri Hughes, Alton, Virginia; Keshi and Russell Surles Jr, Kennesaw, Georgia; Janine and Rashawn Nelson Sr., Queens, New York; Kenyon I. Richardson, Bedford, Texas ; 7 nieces, 10 nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Wado held a very special place and love in his heart for Denise Richards and Quiana Richardson of Queens New York who he lovingly called his “bonus siblings”.
Wado’s “family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your condolences. We felt your thoughts and prayers throughout this most difficult chapter in our lives. We humbly request you continue to pray for us as we adjust to a life without our dear brother’s love and presence.
