Special Info |
Ruby Louise Taylor was born on April 2, 1933, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Gladys Abrahams (d. 1985) and John Taylor. She was the firstborn child of her mother, Gladys, with whom she had a close personal relationship.
Ruby emigrated to the United States in 1968 and later worked as a secretary for the United Jewish Federation of New York for 20 years. She was known as a hard worker who was very tenacious and forward-thinking. Ruby also became a homeowner in the mid-1970s, a significant feat. She was a private person but was a loving and caring person to those who knew her well.
Ruby focused much of her energy on caring for her mother, Gladys, and her son Richard Bowlin, whom she affectionately called by his middle name "Andrew." She would watch live sports events on TV with Gladys in her free time and was very tenacious in ensuring that Richard grew up to be as successful as possible as an adult, making that the center of her attention for much of his life. Ruby also developed many homemaking skills, such as baking and sewing, for which she was well-known to her family and close friends.
Ruby Taylor is survived by her son Richard, her granddaughter Abbigayle, and daughter-in-law Marcia. She is also mourned by the extended family that came to know and love her through the years and the caregivers of her later years, Fay Graham, Petrena, and Andrea Bernard.
