Special Info  Norton was born to Charles A. Hay and Inez Geneva Russell in Ben Bow, St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies, on October 12, 1935. The family initially lived in Colon, Panama until Charles became ill. They returned to Jamaica where he died. He was survived by his wife Inez and four children Dudley, Enid, Norton and Leon. Inez, Dudley and Enid have since passed on. Norton was raised by his mom Inez, grandmother Felicia and Uncle Temias. Upon becoming an adult, Norton moved to Kingston where he worked predominantly as a Barker outside department stores. His job was to lure the public inside by reciting the many sales and bargain opportunities inside. While working at a particular store, he met his wife Miriam Baugh. They got married and the union produced four biological children. There was also one stepchild. In 1974 an opportunity arose that gave Miriam her permanent visa to the United States of America. In 1976 she boldly filed for the entire family. Her dream was realized when Norton and four children were granted permanent visas all in one day. The reunited family settled in Astoria, Queens, New York. Norton soon found employment one block from home at King Wire and Cable Company. The following year, the couple announced the arrival of their fifth child, Andrew James Russell. Upon retirement, Norton returned to being a Barker on Jamaica Avenue. He said he liked meeting people. Unfortunately, COVID forced him to stay home as he was susceptible to it. Upon his passing, Norton is survived by his wife Miriam, children Jacqueline, Wayne, Dale, Andrew and stepdaughter Jennifer. He was blessed to have four grandchildren, Christina, Travis, Destyni and Mikael. Nephew Leroy, Nieces Valerie and Marcia and a host of extended families.
