Special Info  Robert Lee Ward was born on November 8, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to the late parents of Robert Lee Ward Sr and Queen Victoria Ward. Robert attended school in Brooklyn, New York and took several courses at York College. Robert joined the United States Air Force and served his country honorably for six (6) years. He fought valiantly in the Korean War and earned several victory war metals. Robert’s experience in the US Air Force played a very important role in his life. He strongly believed the military taught him the value of discipline, loyalty, teamwork, confidence, being organized and neat, committed, accountability, personal and professional responsibilities, and understanding the importance of respect, honor and cooperation. The most important core values the military taught Robert was how to be a better person and a better man. Robert returned home from the military and married the love of his life, Willrene Swanson. From that union, eight (8) amazing children were born. Robert was always there for his family. Robert was proudly employed by the New York City Transit Authority for 35 years and was promoted to Supervisor of Transportation Operations in the Borough of Queens. Robert was a strong believer in God, Family and Country. He was very smart, loved going to church, hard worker, avid reader who enjoyed history and politics, traveling, listening to jazz music, walking on the beach, fishing and photography. Robert truly believed in public service work for the betterment of his community and country. He always encouraged everyone to pursue a career in public service. He would often say that Civil Service jobs provide incredible benefits, job security, career advancement and pension retirement. Robert lived a long remarkable life. He was an incredible son who made his parents very proud, a role model brother to his two (2) sisters, valiant war hero, loving husband, caring, thoughtful and devoted father, gentle and faithful grandfather and great grandfather, kind uncle, loyal friend, supportive and considerate neighbor. Robert fought a good fight, kept the faith and endured to the very end. On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 11:54am, Robert peacefully went home to be with the lord. Robert was predeceased by his two (2) sisters (Dorothy Sharpe Ivory and Daisy Nevels), son Robert Ward Jr, and daughter Trudy Ward. He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving wife for over 70 years, Willrene Ward; six (6) children (Melvin, Judy, Anthony, Develle, Michael and Kenneth); one (1) amazing son in law; three (3) special daughters in law; nine (9) extraordinary grandchildren; eight (8) exceptional great grandchildren; two (2) beautiful great great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. In calling you home, God has recruited one of his faithful and powerful soldiers. We Salute You and Thank You for your Service to our Country. Rest well, Dear Robert, we will truly miss you and we will never forget you.
