The funeral for the late Oscar Benjamin White will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Agape Church of God located at 13835 Springfield Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11413. There will be a viewing from 3-5pm immediately followed by the funeral at 5pm. He will be buried in Farmingdale, NY.

Oscar Benjamin White was born on February 14, 1935 to the parents of John White and Alberta Williams. He was born in Bensonton, Jamaica West Indies, where he attended school. At a tender age he became a farmer.
In his early twenties, he was baptized at the Gravel Hill Shiloh Apolostic church and filled with the Holy Ghost. Oscar was an excellent guitar player and never missed a day of church to worship his creator. From this moment on, he began fulfilling his desire of becoming a Deacon. Five years later, he met and married his beautiful wife, Viola Kidd. They were married on the 28th of December 1963 and it was from that union that brought forth 3 beautiful children Ivor, Cheryl and Mitzie White. He also raised siblings Dorothy and Dennis Nembhard.
Oscar’s profound love of butchering earned him the name, “Pork-man” from his community. Because of his kindness and generosity, he would always extend a helping hand when warranted.
In August of 1996, Oscar and his wife migrated to the Bronx in NY where they began a new life together and was later joined by their 3 children and granddaughter Melissa. They established a home in Queens, where he did construction and later became a chef. He was an admirable cook and was well known for his delicious Jerk Pork and many other Jamaican cuisines. Oscar enjoyed gardening in which he planted various herbs such as Callaloo and Peppers that many look forward to reaping the benefits of his labor.
Oscar was a great family man who took pride in walking his grandchildren Melissa, Jevone, Natasha, Anthony, Kayla, Jordan and great-granddaughter Olivia. Because of his love for children, he became a father to many and later on adopted Latisha & Lateefa Coleman White.
In November of 2023, Oscar took sick and was hospitalized at Northwell Facility Hospital and was later transferred to Orzac Rehabilitation Center where he received exceptional care. He was well loved by all who came in contact with him. Papa enjoyed his daily visits, especially when his family would surprise him with his favorite fry chicken.
Sadly on July 3rd, 2024 he gained his wings surrounded by his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Viola White. Children Ivor, Cheryl, and Mitzie and his two adopted daughters Latisha and Lateefa. Grandchildren: Melissa, Jevone, Natasha, Anthony, Kayla and Jordan. And Great grandchildren: Junior, Olivia, Lorenzo, Lay’lah, Nevaeh, Kiara and Kamyra. In addition, Dorothy and Dennis Nembhard and their children & grandchildren. Oscar leaves behind siblings Renel Kidd, Abrozine Francis, and Sydney Campbell (pre deceased) and many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Rest in Heavenly Peace, “Oscar”, “Papa”, “Shatta”, “Pork-man”, “Broska”. We will miss you dearly. We hope that God accepts you with the same love and care you have given us all. |
