Special Info  We are gathered here today to remember and celebrate the life of our beloved Evelyn “ET” Tompkins Langford. Let us look back with family and friends as we remember a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and more importantly, a child of GOD. Evelyn embarked on her journey to reunite with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 2nd 2024. Leaving behind a tapestry of memories filled with laughter and cherished moments. Evelyn Tompkins Langford was born in McCormick, South Carolina on February 02, 1927 to Mattie Briggs Tompkins and Fred Tompkins. As a youngster, growing up in the south as a member of a sharecroppers family, she worked in the fields picking cotton, peaches, beans, etc. as this was the only way of life available. She was educated in public schools of Trenton, SC including Edgewood and Douglas Elementary. Evelyn was united in holy matrimony in the mid-forties to Frank Langford and to this union, four children were born including Florence (deceased), Gloria Jean, Frank (Butch) Langford and one child who passed at a very early age, name unavailable. Evelyn and Frank separated in the early fifties and Evelyn relocated to New York City where she became an accomplished house cleaning employee. She excelled in this line of work until she retired. She was an excellent cook and people still talk about her smothered pork chops and gravy. She was well known for her loving personality and uncanny ability to touch everyone who knew her in a way that was unforgettable. If you knew her, you knew what old fashioned family love was all about. She loved to party and get together with friends and family. When the family was having a reunion, Evelyn went to that reunion even with sore knees & legs cause she wanted to be involved in whatever they were doing. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and adored her. In honor of Evelyn, maybe find solace in the memories we shared and the love she showered upon us. Evelyn was preceded in death by sisters Myrtis Settles, Lillian Langford Stevens, brothers George Tompkins and Claude Tompkins. She is survived by daughter Gloria Jean Langford and son Frank (Butch) Langford; Sisters Eunice Mitchell of Riverdale, GA.; Mattie Williams of Trenton, SC; Brother Fred Julian (Helen) Tompkins of Brunswick, GA.; Sister-in-law Marion Tompkins of Washington, DC and a host of grand and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends mostly living on the east coast from NY to Georgia. As we leave here today, let us celebrate the incredible legacy Evelyn Tompkins Langford has left behind. Through the unwavering commitment of her family friends and community she has made a lasting impact on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
