OBITUARY
Enid Birkett Hinds passed away on February 11, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born on a leap year in Barbados, Enid spent her early years in Guyana after emigrating with her parents, Nathaniel and Millicent. Being a leap-year baby, Enid celebrated her birthday on February 28 during non-leap years and on both February 28 and 29 during leap years.
Enid led an entire and rewarding life in Guyana and the United States. She cherished her time with her five siblings: her sister Unita and four brothersCharles, William, Carlton, and Reginaldwho have since passed away. Enid worked as the head chef at Woodbine Hotel for most of her adult life until her retirement. She met and married her husband, Hector Joseph Hinds, and together they had 11 children: Maxie, Carlton (deceased), Rick (deceased), John, Calvin, Denise, Colin, Joslyn, Jenell, Marlyn, and Peter.
Enid touched the lives of many with her kindness and warm personality. She had a vibrant social life filled with time spent with her lifelong friends. Known as a social butterfly, Enid loved to dress up in the fancy frocks she created on her sewing machine for parties. As a talented chef, cooking was her passion; she never needed recipes and made everything from scratch. Those who had the pleasure of tasting her food still remember its exceptional flavor. Enid's generosity and caring nature set her apart, as she often went out of her way to give gifts to those she loved. She frequently said, "God is in charge, all is well, and a mother's love knows no bounds." Young at heart, she embraced life and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Enid is survived by nine of her children and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her family, relatives, friends, and many other loved ones will treasure and remember her life.
