Special Info
|
Radcliffe Anthony "Tony" McIntyre was born on December 27, 1956, in Belmont, Westmoreland, Jamaica, the youngest of seven children for Alice Jordan McIntyre and Harold Percival McIntyre. He embraced many roles throughout his life — son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, and friend — and he poured his heart and soul into each one.
Tony's early years were spent in Belmont, where he attended Bluefields Primary School before continuing his education at Mannings High School. He served with courage and dedication as a Fireman at the Savanna-La-Mar Fire Station. It was also the beginning of lifelong friendships with his fellow Firefighters.
In 1983, Tony emigrated to the United States, joining his sister Sandra, who affectionately referred to him as her "first son." Sandra played an instrumental role in guiding Tony through this transition, supporting him through every milestone of his life. Since childhood, they shared a special bond.
After moving to the U.S., he pursued a degree in Health Sciences at Bronx Community College, which led to a successful career as a Medical Technologist. He dedicated many years to Quest Diagnostics, where he rose through the ranks to a management position, overseeing operations in the New York City Home Care Department. He also served as Fire Safety Director at Bell Atlantic. Tony's sense of duty extended beyond his career. He proudly served as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the New York Police Department (NYPD) for many years, continuing his lifelong commitment to serving and protecting his community.
Tony's true joy was found at home, surrounded by the people he loved most. If you knew Tony, you knew his love for entertainment, music, and good company. His home was always a lively and welcoming space where family, friends, and neighbors gathered to share laughter, delicious food, and unforgettable moments. Summers were highlighted by his legendary BBQs, where everyone felt like part of the family.
Family was everything to Tony. His bond with his siblings was unbreakable — they supported each other through life's highs and lows and remained a source of strength for him, especially during his illness. Tony's love for his daughters was immeasurable. He took immense pride in ensuring they prioritized education.
Tony was also known for his animated and passionate discussions about politics. A proud supporter of the People's National Party (PNP), he was always ready to
debate anyone — whether willing or not — about the positive changes Michael Manley brought to Jamaica. His passion was rooted in a deep love for his homeland and a steadfast belief in a brighter future.
In his later years, Tony faced numerous health challenges, yet he met them with remarkable strength and unwavering resilience. Despite his struggles, he maintained a brave face, drawing strength from the unwavering love and support of his wife, Levane and family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Levane Grant-McIntyre, and his beloved daughters Melissa McIntyre-Huggins (Khanhai Huggins), Kayon McIntyre, Reniece McIntyre, Briana McIntyre, and his niece Tanisha McIntyre, who was like a daughter to him, grandchildren Kaedin Huggins and Kirstin Huggins, and his stepsons, Jovane Grant McDermott and Rashaun Grant McDermott, siblings Monica McIntyre, Sandra Vessup, Valerie McIntyre (Paul Bradbury), Maxine McIntyre-Etienne (Gregory Etienne), and his brother Logan McIntyre (Rose Ann McIntyre), his aunt Dulcie Scott, along with 9 nieces and grandnieces, 13 nephews and grandnephews, and a host of cousins, relatives, and lifelong friends. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Blondel.
Tony's life was a testament to love, strength, and community. He created a space where everyone felt valued, where laughter echoed, and where memories were made that will last a lifetime. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit, his laughter, and the values he imparted will continue to guide and inspire us.
Rest in peace, Tony. You have left a profound and lasting mark on our hearts, and though you are gone, your love will continue to light our path.
