Special Info
|
Darnell Thomas was born on November 25,1965 in Queens, NY, to the union of the late Willie and Eartha Thomas. On June 14, 2025, Darnell was embraced by his departed loved ones, finding eternal peace surrounded by those who went before him. As one of eleven siblings, Darnell was shaped by the love, challenges, and closeness of a large family. Darnell attended public schools in Queens and later went on to build a career at Costco, where he worked his way up to become a manager. He later met Donna Clinkscales, with whom he shared a meaningful bond. Together, they welcomed a son, Darnell, affectionately known as Lakim or La. Darnell was also a father figure to Donna's children — Kema, Cliff and Brittney. He was a proud grandfather to his three beautiful grandchildren: Lahnell, Brooke, and Serenity, and godfather to his goddaughter, Dinhesya. His bright smile and natural connection with children left a lasting impression on everyone around him. In his early adulthood, Darnell was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, which required a strict dialysis schedule. He rose before sunrise three times a week for treatment. Despite this challenge, he remained strong and resilient until he took his last breath. Though he often carried a tough exterior, those who knew him best knew he was a true fighter with a caring heart. Darnell was always the first to pull up a seat at the card table — he loved a good card game. His competitive spirit brought out a full range of emotions: a few choice of words, plenty of laughter, and unforgettable moments that kept everyone entertained. Darnell will always be remembered by his infectious smile, his tough exterior, and his classic old-school style. He was often spotted with his Gazelle eyeglasses, a signature hat, earpiece, earring, chain, and his keys clipped to his jeans — a look that was undeniably his own. Throughout all he endured, Darnell carried himself with remarkable strength. He found joy in life's simple pleasures — spending time with loved ones, grabbing a coffee from Dunkin' Donuts, enjoying a good meal, and sipping on a Pina Colada at Red Lobster. These everyday moments brought him happiness and they're the ones we'll cherish most when we think of him. Darnell was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Eartha; his sisters Lisa, Geraldine and Gloria; and his brothers Charlie and Corbin. He leaves to cherish his memory: his son Darnell, grandchildren Lahnell, Brooke, and Serenity; his sisters Dorothy, Yvonne, and Gwendolyn; brothers Willie Jr., Eric, and Jermaine; Uncle Clifford (Uncle Tee) and Aunt Irene Thomas; Aunt Marion Valle; Donna, who played a close and caring role in his life; his close friend, Michael Valentine; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
