Special Info

Good morning, everyone.
Thank you all for gathering today to celebrate the life of Valda Jean Walker, also known as Sister Walker, Auntie Valda, and Mom.
Valda was a strong and forceful woman who did not let anyone intimidate her. She also had a compassionate side which manifest itself when it comes to the needs of the children of her community.
Valda was born on July 4, 1950, in the parish of Islington Saint Mary, to Mr. Ernest Forbes and Timima Lovelace Henderson. Valda was one of the youngest of ten children. She received the gift of the Holy Ghost at age nine. Valda would then minister as a Sunday School Teacher for the younger kids, ages 4-10 inspiring them to praise and worship the Lord Jesus Christ.
After her primary education, with the help and support of Mr. and Mrs. McCaulsky and her family who were instrumental in her growth and protection she pursues advance Education at The College of Arts, Science, and Technology in Kingston Jamaica West Indies (CAST) as a Lab Technician doing Laser and Fiber Optic.
She met her husband Loandous Augustus Walker through a mutual friend, and both migrated to United States. While in the United States Valda attended college majoring in Programming and Mathematics. She decided to leave college early to raise her young family after the birth of her two boys Orel and Jaimie.
Valda was employed with Dime Savings Bank and later Citibank. Her calm mannerism and attitude helped her won the hearts of her peers and customers at Citibank. She would tackle the most difficult customers with love, compassion, and a warm smile.
She would often ask customers, what causes you to have a bad day? She would pray for many that God would have his way with them. We have testimonials such as pictures and cards given to mom from happy customers who has proven the love of God.
Mom was led by God with her young children to United Apostolic Church of Queens New York where she remains a faithful member to the end. She was a fixture at the Mondays' prayer and fasting services. She was also a leader on the daily prayer line.
Mom following in the footsteps of Grandma Timima and would try her best to pray over her family, church, and children. She would spend night after night praying for her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews and their children. She would also pray over her customers from work. She would be praying from 10:00pm at nights till early mornings 1:00am. She had a long list of names praying Gods blessings and protection over everyone.
Often, we find our mom asleep with papers of names and bible scriptures. We would gently nudge her to continue so everyone gets their blessing. Valda taught us that passion for God must be paramount before anything. She would always say make sure no matter what you do you "Love God First and Love God More".
Valda is survived by her children Orel, his wife Caryn, and Jaimie. Brothers and Sisters, Peggy, Winston, Linsey, Lloyd, Karl and Worrel. Numerous extended families and friends.
May her Soul Rest in Peace.
