Special Info Dawn Michelle Lucas was born on March 2, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Ronald and Mariel Lucas. At the age of six, Dawn and her family relocated to Springfield Gardens, Queens, where she would build the lifelong friendships and deep family roots that would define so much of her life. Shortly after moving to the neighborhood, Dawn met her next-door neighbor, Jewell, and after starting first grade together, the two became inseparable best friends whose bond remained unbreakable throughout their lives.

From an early age, Dawn radiated energy, rhythm, and joy. As a child, she proudly performed with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company and several local dance troupes throughout Queens. Her love for music and dancing never faded and remained one of the many ways she brought life into every room she entered. Whether house music, R&B, or hip-hop was playing, Dawn could always be counted on to break into the beloved "family dance," instantly turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories.

Dawn graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, New York in 1986. Just months before graduation, she proudly became a big sister to her baby brother, Michael, in September of 1985. Despite their 17-year age difference, Dawn adored Michael and affectionately referred to him as her "little big brother," a title that reflected the immense love, admiration, and closeness they shared throughout her life.

A true "Daddy's Girl" at heart, Dawn lived to make her parents proud. She shared many of their passions and traditions, especially her love for gardening, household projects, and family togetherness. She inherited her father's love for growing vegetables and took pride in getting her hands dirty just as much as she loved getting glam. Dawn was known for her signature winged eyeliner, fabulous perfume collection, and platform sneakers — effortlessly blending beauty, style, and authenticity in a way that was uniquely her.

Family was the center of Dawn's world. Her loyalty to those she loved was unmatched. Sundays were sacred to her, and without fail, she spent them with her parents, brother Michael, and family. Before the passing of her beloved mother in 2019, Dawn, Mariel, and Michael could often be found shopping together from Manhattan to Riverhead — sometimes all in the same day — laughing, exploring, and making memories out of even the most ordinary errands.

Dawn was also an adventurous foodie and phenomenal home cook. Nothing was ever "too spicy" for her, and she was perhaps best known for her unforgettable Rasta Pasta and seafood boils. There wasn't a dish Dawn wouldn't try, master, and recreate flawlessly at home. She had a gift for making people feel cared for through food, laughter, music, and togetherness.

Her love for technology, problem-solving, and staying active led her to a successful career spanning more than two decades with Verizon as a Field Technician based out of Brooklyn, New York. Dawn took immense pride in her work and built lasting connections everywhere she went. Her infectious laugh, warm smile, bubbly personality, and willingness to always show up for others left a lasting impression on customers, coworkers, friends, and strangers alike. If something needed to be fixed, assembled, built, or figured out, Dawn was the person everyone called.

In 2010, Dawn lovingly embraced a second family through Michael's union with Tiffany. She quickly became a beloved daughter to Michael "Papa Bates" and Gerri "Mama Gerri," and a devoted sister to Brittany. Dawn treasured her role as "Auntie Dawn," even proudly creating custom sister and auntie shirts she wore with Brittany for birthdays and family celebrations.

Although Dawn never had children of her own, her nephews Brandon and Brian were the absolute loves of her life. She adored them beyond measure and made it very clear that nobody should ever "play" about her nephews. Whether bonding over Nintendo Switch games and iPad apps, celebrating birthdays and holidays, or joking that she'd personally handle any playground squabble they encountered, Dawn poured endless love, laughter, and protection into their lives.

Dawn was a true girls' girl who shared an extraordinary sisterhood with her lifelong best friends, Jewell and Veronica, as well as a devoted circle of family and friends who loved her deeply. To know Dawn was to feel welcomed, celebrated, and loved wholeheartedly. She had a rare gift for making everyday moments feel vibrant, joyful, and alive.

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Dawn passed away at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital in Valley Stream, New York following an unexpected and tragic complication after a routine medical procedure. Though her passing has left an unimaginable void, Dawn's spirit, laughter, love, and vibrant energy will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.

Dawn leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her devoted brothers Michael and Austin; sisters Tiffany and Brittany; her cherished nephews and greatest joys, Brandon and Brian; her beloved goddaughters Rashawna and Jerena; her partner James; lifelong best friends Jewell and Veronica; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, dear friends, and colleagues.

Dawn now rests peacefully reunited with her beloved parents, Ronald and Mariel Lucas; Papa Bates; her dear cousin Felecia; and all of the ancestors who lovingly welcomed her home.

Though Dawn's light dimmed far too soon, the love she gave so freely will continue shining brightly through every laugh, dance, meal, memory, and moment shared by those fortunate enough to know her. Her cup overflowed into the lives of everyone around her — and that love will remain forever.
