Special Info  The Life of Meryl Ann McBarnette Meryl Ann McBarnette better known as Maureen was born on the island of Grenada, in the parish of St. John, the town of Gauyave to her late Parents Jerome Mc Barnette and Sylvia Williams on June 2nd,1949. In her early years she was raised by her Grand Mother Ms. Mercy Holder and then at about age five after her Grand Mother passed, by her God Parents whom Meryl called Paren and Nennen. According to Meryl, Paren and Nennen adored her and cared for her as their own and she loved them dearly. They carried her to church, took her shopping and did activities with her making her feel loved and Special in every way. She remembers those days fondly, living in Gauyave and having that family close to her. as the happiest days of her childhood. However, around the age of 10 Nennen died and Meryl was forced to move back to her Mother’s home in Concord. Being the oldest girl of her Mother’s Children, and the second child in that family of seven, the responsibility to care for her siblings fell heavily on her shoulders. Nevertheless, Meryl went about her tasks nurturing and Caring lovingly for her siblings and assisting wherever possible. Her siblings can still recall some of the special care they received from Meryl, Her Corn Meal porridge which they claimed was the best in the world, no other porridge in the world could taste as hers. Meryl loved to cook, she loved to bake especially bread and she loved to eat. After Leaving school Meryl was sent on to Study Typing and Stenography and gained Certification in both areas. Skills that would serve her for the rest of her Life. Meryl met and fell in Love with a handsome young man named Michael Herry and in 1974 they were wedded, that union produced a beautiful daughter named Jenine. In 1976 Mr. Herry got an opportunity to move to the United States and in May of 1977 Meryl moved to the United States to join her husband and begin a new life in America. Meryl’s first employment was at Huggins shipping department, in Grenada, where she worked as a Stenographer/typist for many years until she Migrated to the United States. In America Meryl eventually found employment with American Express company and Labored there until that company closed down and moved out of state. After some temp work and job hunting, an opportunity with Municipal Credit Union presented itself and Meryl worked with MCU for over 35 years until her retirement in 2019. Meryl shared great stories of her time with MCU and remembers quite fondly details of stories of her time spent there and the eternal friendships and bonds she forged whilst there. And thus began Meryl’s walk with Christ and her obedience to the Holy Spirit, and her diligent studies of the Holy Scriptures.Sister Meryl felt a stirring in her Spirit very early in her Life, and tried her best to ignore it, but the spirit will not have it. While attending a neighboring church gathering with some friends, Meryl stood up and answered the call to give her Life to Christ. As sister Meryl would recall the story, “Girlfriend, Hmmnn… I don’t know what happened, what hit me, I only know I stood up and I’m asking myself what do I know about this thing? But sister Pet I know now that when God calls you, He Equips you.” And thus began Meryl’s walk with Christ and her obedience to the Holy Spirit, and her diligent studies of the Holy Scriptures. Meryl dedicated her Life to Christ, She loved to Pray and cared for those who were ill within her community. She became immersed in the Spiritual Baptiste Religion and it was not long before she again felt that stirring in her spirit once again. She deliberated with herself and others for a while, sought counsel and after much thought she answered the call once again and became an ordained Minister in the Spiritual Baptiste Faith Community. Towards the end of Meryl’s Life as she was ailing, struggling with tough decisions and immense pain, Meryl’s Faith and belief in God was on full display. She depended on her faith and belief in god to guide her through her prognosis, Diagnosis and treatment plan and when some of us of lesser steadfastness could not understand it, Sister Meryl stood strong and resilient. Her famous words were that God had seen her through these last almost 71 years and he told her quite clearly that he will never leave her nor forsake her and she has taking him to his word. Meryl exemplified her faith in every step of her ordeal right through to her last breath.
