Obituary
Perry Lee Campbell was born on September 19, 1958 to the late Mazie Mae Campbell in Laurinburg, NC. He departed this life on April 3, 2021 in his home in Jamaica, NY.
At an early age, Perry, his mother, and two older brothers moved to New York City. They resided in Jamaica, Queens. He graduated from P.S. 116, I.S. 8, and Francis Lewis High School. As a teenager, he worked as a summer counselor at the center in Bricktown. He later worked at Eddie Woods Candy Store where he met Sylvia Tillman. With his Campbell charm and corny pick up line (“I’ll be your apple pie”), they got married and had ten children.
Perry worked at Lenox Hill Hospital as a medical biller. Because of his love of cooking and food, he obtained a culinary degree. He worked at Wonders of the World and Terrace of the Green. He retired as the executive chef at St. John’s University.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years: Sylvia Campbell; his children: Danny, Travis (Michelle), Perry, Christine, Sherolyn, Ruthie, Stacey, Sha-Ron, Courtney and Conrad Campbell; sister: Hope Campbell; brother: Spencer Campbell; aunts: Bessie Barksdale (Richard) and Anna-Laura Patterson (Mamie); uncle: Otis Campbell; host of grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. |
