Special Info |
Derek's Children would like to thank everyone for coming to celebrate the life of DEREK STEVEN GABBIN.
Derek was born in Queens General Hospital on August 9, 1957. He was the son of the late Lucius Steven Baston and Gwendolyn America Gabbin-Allen. He spent his childhood in Queens, New York, with his family, where he attended Public schools ps.50q, Jhs IS 8 and Andrew Jackson Highschool, where he also received his High School Diploma. While in high school, Derek earned the name Crip from the way he walked and his style. He became well known by many.
Derek was employed as a Stock Maintenance worker at Pathmark, which he enjoyed doing during his teenage years. After Highschool Derek was hired by the New York City Parks Department as a Maintenace worker, where he worked for many years until he was sadly injured on the job. Causing him to become disabled and unable to continue his employment. Derek will surely be missed by many.
Derek loved to dress and had to look his best while stepping out. He was well known as a ladies' man, and the ladies often called him Jazz. Shortly after, he fathered four beautiful children, Stevie, Latesha, Desmond, and Dereese.
Derek loved listening to music and watching movies; old western movies and the honeymooners were his favorites. He loved watching sports while drinking his favorite Corona, his favorite team was the New York Yankees, and we would often hear him yell, "Come on Man ." He was often seen wearing New York Yankee Jerseys and fitted caps. Derek was family-oriented and cherished every opportunity to embrace his loved ones. He loved to laugh, crack jokes and make memories. He loved taking pictures and capturing every moment he shared with his family and friends. He would often say, "let's take a pic," on any good day, and if he didn't like how the picture came out, he would say, "Let's take another gotta get my good side and my chain ."His love for his family and friends was unmatched, he adored and enjoyed having a good time and was the life of the party.
On the morning of June 3, 2022 the lord called Derek home.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Robert Allen, and late wife, Anita-Lee Hughley. He leaves behind his four children: Stevie, Latesha, Desmond, and Dereese.
