Special Info  DOROTHY'S LIFE (Sissy) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 Dorothy Cordelia Trotman nee Cummins was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies on April 28, 1941. She was the only daughter of Dudley and Phyllis Cummins and was baptized Dorothy Angela Cordelia. Dorothy, or Sissy as she was affectionately called, attended Ursaline Convent and later Westbury Girls School. Upon graduation, she worked for the prestigious and famous retailer A.E. Taylor in Barbados. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Hutson Trotman with whom she was united in Holy Matrimony on June 11,1960. From their union, 4 sons were born: Wayne Robert, Bryan Andre, Curtis Erard and Anthony Rudolph. Sissy and Hutty, as she affectionately called him, dreamt of a better life for their family and in 1968, she emigrated to Brooklyn, New York where she began the process of bringing her family to join her in America. Through sponsorship by her dear friend, Nina Rosinek with whom Sissy had a loving relationship, she was able to accomplish this goal. This special relationship extended to Nina's daughter, Alisha whom Sissy cared for like a daughter. Hutty later joined Sissy in 1971 and they began setting up their new life together in Brooklyn and brought their boys over in 1973. Sissy began working as a Caregiver which set the tone for her life of service and caring for others. This would be the defining characteristic of who Sissy was. Following that call of service and dedication to others, Sissy became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Throughout her professional years, Sissy was employed by American Nursing Home, DeWitt Nursing Home and Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home, to name a few. Mom and Dad stressed the importance of education, hard work and always bringing your best to any challenges and opportunities in life. Though sometimes stern yet always loving, Mom was our rock and foundation. She was always there to nurture, guide and support her 4 boys, her mother, her 5 brothers and their families. She was a devoted friend to many and could always be relied upon for her support. Her generosity knew no bounds. Everyone who knew Sissy can attest to how big her heart was and how easily she gave of herself. Sissy was no doubt a fashionista and loved to dress impeccably. She could always be counted on to make a statement by the sharp way she dressed, the jewelry and bling she wore that accented her look. Sissy loved to host holidays and family gatherings where she always made everything extra special. She opened her home to family and friends where she cooked huge meals that all enjoyed in her warm and loving environment. Christmas was Sissy's favorite holiday and she loved to decorate the house which would be lit up beautifully inside and out. Sissy loved the Lord and was a devoted parishioner of Community Worship Center, Church of the Nazarene (formerly Miller Memorial) for 43 years. She loved her church, her Pastor and the church family deeply. Sissy's relationship with her Savior was the cornerstone of her life. Mum passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022 and we take great comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord. Daddy preceded Mum in death on November 14, 2010 after 50 years of marriage. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, four sons: Wayne, Bryan, Curtis and Tony. Five brothers: Richard, Earl, Warren, David and Val. Sisters-in-law: Susan, Fleur, Coral, Carol and Shirley. Sister-in-law, Edna Trotman Thomas, Brother-in-law, Vincel Thomas. Daughters-in-law: Victoria, Carletta, Louisa and Robin. Thirteen grandchildren: Carolyn, Bobby, Joshua, Jessica, Chantel, Brandon, Christopher, Matthew, Anthony Jr., Jonathan, Drew, Amber and Alex. Three great-grandchildren: Aniyah, Thalia and Janelle. Sissy also leaves a host of nieces and nephews including loving nieces Shirley, Ann, Wendy, Betty and Gail. Nephews Lance, Roger and Dale. Her brothers' children: Ryan, Dawn, Whitney, Amanda, Antoinette, Shannon, Taylor, Michael and Alexis. Sissy lived her life in a way that should be aspired to. She was a God-fearing woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, sister, friend and so much more. She touched many lives and made a positive impression on so many people with her love and generosity. She loved with all her heart and will be dearly missed. Mum's spirit lives on in all of us. there are never enough words to embody a life, or to encapsulate the true essence of a person's personality nor to express what the heart truly feels! as your eldest niece i have been fortunate to experience you in all of your facets! a taurus just like my mom! dear cousins and uncles, in my absence i want to express my sincere heartfelt condolences in your loss of a mother and sister. to my younger cousins my heartfelt condolences in your loss of a grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. i carry with me the fondest memories of her laugher, our fussy dresses for easter and christmas service, tents under the dining room table (the younger cousins wouldn't know but i invented that... winks), what seemed like endless cleaning of the house on weekends and our many dance offs! my love of dancing definitely came from her. life well lived aunt sissy! as a mother myself i know that a mother's prayer is to see her children grow and flourish. hers has 10-fold! hallelujah!! rest eternally peaceful in our fathers' arms. i love you! words not often spoken but felt.. it's the west indian way. your loving niece. dawn amanda cummins.
