Special Info  Beryl May Talbott was born on June 14th, 1947, in Sligoville, St Catherine, Jamaica. She was the second child born to Aston and Florence Talbott. From a very young age, it was apparent that Beryl was a very outgoing, sociable individual. She easily made friends with her vivacious, charming personality. She attended the Sligoville Primary School, where she excelled academically, passing her 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Jamaica Local Examination, which prepared her for one of her life’s dream to become a teacher. She took part in several school and community activities such as, youth clubs, and the Anglican Church Young People Association, where she provided leadership and inspiration to the youth in the community. Beryl was always a very industrious young lady, who helped her parents tremendously with her younger siblings. She loved baking and would make the most delicious fruit cakes and buns. Although she had many talents, we all agree that braiding hair was not one of them, her younger sisters would worry when she had the responsibility to braid their hair, and she herself would admit that she was not good at it. Beryl had a beautiful voice and would often be the main soloist at concerts held at the Sligoville Anglican Church. We would look forward to hearing her sing her hit solo “Oh Holy Night” every Christmas. After graduating from Sligoville Primary School she taught at the Sligoville Basic School for approximately 3yrs and later left home to attend Bethlehem Teacher’s College in St Elizabeth, where she graduated as a trained teacher. She went on to teach at the Chetolah Park Primary School in Kingston, Jamaica for many years. In 1977, She migrated to the USA to join her elder sister, Frances who lived in Brooklyn. Beryl initially worked as a caregiver to a very loving family in New York City for a few years and then followed her passion and attended City College of NY, where she graduated as a teacher with her BA and worked for the NYC Board of Education. While attending college, she gave birth to her only child, Darryl. He was her pride and joy and she loved him with all her heart. Beryl was the most devoted, caring, gentle and kind mother any son could ask for. She gave selflessly and nothing was too much for her to do for him. She was also extremely devoted to her family and provided extraordinary support to her nieces and nephews and encouraged them to get a college education. She was present at almost all family gatherings where she assisted with her special touch in all the preparations. In 2010 Beryl retired as a teacher and relocated to Tamarac, Florida. She resided at Kings Point, a retirement community and immediately became at home in her new environment, where she integrated seamlessly with her newly found friends, who were like family to her. She was an active member of the community, and she was the life of all the parties and social gatherings. Dancing was her favorite past time and her brother Derrick always referred to her as the “dancing queen”: even though not 17, she danced as if she were. Beryl was very fashionable and always elegantly dressed. She enjoyed celebrating her birthdays with her friends and family. She loved traveling and visited many countries. At a very early age, while attending St John’s Anglican Church in Sligoville, she developed a rock solid relationship with God, which continued throughout her life. She last attended Light House Christian Fellowship in Florida, where as usual, she was an active member. Her faith was unwavering and she would encourage us to make sure that we also had that same special relationship with God. Beryl became ill in July last year and moved back to New York to receive medical care. During that period, she was lovingly taken care of by her family, especially her sister Frances with whom she lived. Beryl is pre-deceased by her brother Everton. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, son Darryl, granddaughter, Chloe, six siblings: Frances, Derrick, Courtney, Elaine, Jenifer and Yvonne, sisters- in- law: Veronica & Janet and brother- in- law, Jonathan and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Her kind and compassionate spirit will be truly missed. Lovingly submitted by her family.
