Special Info  Carolyn Ryan-Francis was born on January 7, 1961 on the island of Antigua to parents James and Sarah Ryan. She was blessed to have two protectors in the form of her siblings; her older brother Desmond and older sister Verlyn. Carolyn’s parents were Seventh-day Adventists, and exposed her to the tenants of Seventh-day Adventism through church and school. From an early age she developed a love for Seventh-day Adventist Christian education and decided to become a teacher. At age 18, she enrolled in the teacher training program at Caribbean Union College (CUC) and graduated from the program two years later, in June 1979, with an associates degree in teacher education. Upon her graduation she returned home to Antigua and began her teaching career at the Antigua Seventh-day Adventist School. After 2 years in the classroom, Carolyn returned to CUC and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in the spring of 1983. Not only did she receive her education during this time period; she also met the love of her life, Jude J. Francis, a student of Theology from Grenada. He would subsequently become her husband. Carolyn and Jude were married in the summer of 1985 and the two established their home in St. George’s, Grenada. Jude began his Pastoral ministry and Carolyn became the Home Economics teacher at Anglican High School in St. Georges, a position she held for almost nine years. By the fall of 1986 the newlyweds welcomed their first born; their son, Jude Jamie. Two years later Jemica Desiree was born, and it was not until ten years later that Jaycee Jenecia arrived and the shop was finally closed. In 1996 the family relocated to Brooklyn, New York where Carolyn continued teaching at the Flatbush Seventh-Day Adventist School. In 2010 Carolyn was asked to serve as Principal of the Springfield Seventh-Day Adventist Junior Academy (SSAJA) in Springfield, MA; a position she held for five years. During her tenure at SSAJA she began taking courses toward a masters degree. In the spring of 2013, Carolyn graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Andrews University. Parallel to her professional growth was the growth of her family. In 2013 Jude Jamie married the now Shenelle Francis, and they wasted no time in making her a grandmother. First came her grand-daughter Chloe, followed by Camden and finally Cai; whose first birthday was celebrated the very week of her passing. In support of her husband’s ministerial career, Carolyn once again picked up the torch to leave an imprint on the lives of people in every church they were assigned. Whether it was serving in the food pantry, telling children’s story to the primary youth, or holding weekly lunches at her house as a respite for the young adults, Carolyn’s love and dedication for people went far beyond the classroom. The next chapter of Carolyn’s teaching career saw her return to the Flatbush Seventh-day Adventist School in the summer of 2015 where she served there as principal for two years. Then in 2017 she was reassigned to Northeastern Academy as Vice Principal, Guidance Counselor, and teacher. Lastly in 2022, upon the establishment of Northeastern Adventist Academy, Carolyn’s final assignment was teaching English for grades 7 through 10. Carolyn will be remembered for so many things: dedicated wife and mother, avid cook, strong disciplinarian, gifted teacher and administrator, visionary, and as one who loved the Lord and loved people. Her family thanks you for your support, words of comfort and prayers.
