Orris was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend whose presence radiated love, kindness, and elegance. Raised in Princes Town, Trinidad, Orris shared her childhood with six siblings: Leonard, Yvonne, Shirley (dec.), Marie, Sterlin, and Joyce Bishop (dec.). Education played a significant role in Orris' life as she attended St. Stephen's Anglican Primary School, followed by St. Stephen's College and Callendar's Commercial School. On May 1, 1976, Orris entered a beautiful union with Joseph George Gabriel, beginning a chapter of love, companionship, and shared dreams. Together, they embraced the journey of life, nurturing a bond built on devotion and respect. The birth of their daughter, Candice Gabriel, on March 9, 1984, brought immeasurable joy to Orris' heart. Candice became her pride and joy, a testament to the love and dedication Orris poured into her role as a mother. Orris' unwavering support and guidance shaped Candice's path, and their bond flourished throughout the years. In pursuit of new horizons, Orris made the permanent move to New York City in 1990/91, where she continued a lifelong 62 year old friendship that started in Trinidad with Erymntrude Southwell. Their friendship stood the test of time, providing support, laughter, and shared memories. The embrace of Orris' extended family, the Southwell family and the Ross family were a blessing to her life, providing a sense of belonging and connection in her adopted city, spending birthdays, holidays and doing vacations together. They played an integral part in the development of Candy as she grew into the woman she is today. Orris dedicated herself to a career as a Nursing Assistant at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital. Her compassionate nature and selfless service left an indelible impact on both her colleagues and the patients she cared for. With a calm disposition and a peaceful spirit, Orris brought comfort and healing to those in need.
