Ernest Alonza Kirkland, 82 years old, of Rockaway Beach, NY, passed away on July 4th, 2023.
Ernest was born on September 20, 1940, to Marzine and Ernest Kirkland Sr. in Birmingham, Alabama. After Ernest graduated from high school, he went on to join the United States Army where he chose to work as an electrical engineer.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he ultimately continued a career as an electrical engineer with Sperry aka Lockheed Martin in management, which lead to his retirement.
During this time, he also became a member of the Masonic lodge in Jamaica Queens, performed as a DJ for many and had lots of fun doing it. He was well known as “DJ ERNIE” to many. He loved to sing, dance, make jokes, and make everyone around him laugh and have fun. He loved to party at all times.
In 1969 he went on to have one child named Michelle Lewis and ultimately 2 grandchildren (Eric and Kayla) with whom he maintained a very close-knit relationship with throughout the years. Subsequently he entered a marriage with Delois Kirkland and divorced after 25 years. After divorcing he developed and maintained friendships with people that cared about him deeply and supported him to the end.
Ernest was predeceased by [Marzine Kirkland, Ernest Kirkland Sr., Michael Kirkland, Reginald Kirkland, Francine Kirkland, Larry Kirkland and other siblings. He is survived by Michelle Lewis Green, Laurantine Kirkland-Echols, Kirk Kirkland, Mamie Kirkland, and many others
