Special Info  Ronald “Ron” Lucas was born on, September 1, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Alexander and Veronica Lucas. He was the second of three children born to the couple. From adolescence, Ron possessed a proclivity for the arts and began drawing, and eventually painting, at an early age. If he wasn’t involved in the arts, Ron could be found participating in basketball, a sport he would never outgrow. Ron was educated in the New York City Public Schools System, first at P.S. 125 for elementary school and then, at J.H.S. 263 for junior high school, both in Brooklyn. Ron is a graduate of Art & Design High School located in New York, New York, where he played basketball and further pursued his love of art and watercolor painting. A lifelong Master of the Arts, Ron was a long-standing member of The Salmagundi Club where his artistic works were exhibited countless times throughout the years. Ron would later teach Art and Painting to students throughout New York City. His works have been exhibited all over the world, but most predominantly, in Barbados where he had an art residency and sold out galleries for a number of years. After high school, Ron served in the United States Army and was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War where he earned the distinguished Army Marksman Badge for his expert rifle marksmanship. Following an honorable discharge at the expiration of his service tenure, he returned to Brooklyn where he first worked for Grayson Fashion Industries as a Fashion Art Designer. Ron then went to work for the United States Postal Service where he met his late wife, Mariel Georges-Lucas. Shortly after meeting her, Ron embarked on the career from which he would ultimately retire after several decades of service with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s New York City Transit System where he was a Subway Train Operator. He retired from New York City Transit in 1995 after decades of dedicated service. Together with Mariel, they embarked on their “happily ever after” and started a family with the birth of their daughter, Dawn, known by all as a forever “Daddy’s Girl”. Shortly after welcoming their daughter, Ron and Mariel moved into what would be their forever home in Springfield Gardens, New York. Ron loved his home and his family. 17 years later, the family of three became four with the birth of their son, Michael, in 1985. Ron took so much pride in his home, a quality he poured into his children during their upbringing. In retirement, Ron enjoyed painting, traveling, watching sports on television, attending family gatherings and spending time with his grandsons, Brandon (age 7) and Brian (age 3). Ron was known for the legendary cruises he planned for his extended family. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. Ron had a fierce passion for gardening and took joy in growing fruits and vegetables that he lovingly shared with his family, friends and neighbors. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Mariel, his parents, Alexander and Veronica, and his two brothers, Robert “Butch” Lucas and Dwight Lucas. He is survived by his two children, Dawn (James) and Michael (Tiffany), grandsons Brandon and Brian, his only sister, Sharon Estrada (Abe), and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends. His legacy will live on through the lives and memories of all those he touched.
