Special Info  Shirley Jean Lane was born on January 19, 1954 in Wilson, North Carolina. Shirley was raised in North Carolina and New York, by parents Hazel Mae Howard (deceased) and James Howard (now living in New York), in a family environment with strong values. Shirley’s family rewrote the meaning of siblings, where sisters, brothers and cousins were all considered siblings. Shirley started her early education in North Carolina and completed it in the New York City public school system. Shirley attended Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn, New York, enrolled in the nursing program, where she started her career. Shirley continued her education attending Pace University, Medgar Evers College and LaGuardia College while employed at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where she stayed employed for thirty-nine years. Shirley’s adult life was mostly spent in New York where she met Jimmie Plummer, forming a union that has lasted for over forty-five years. From this union they have one child Deirdre Elise Plummer of New York, who blessed them with one grandson Karnod Donald Knowles Jr. Shirley was a very loving, caring, giving person, and never expected anything in return. She was hardworking and determined in her goals, but she never hesitated to stop and make sure the ones she loved were taken care of. The one thing Shirley always wanted was to return to her roots in North Carolina. She and Jimmie started to make that happen when they bought a house in Wilson, in 2009. Shirley loved the quietness of North Carolina so much that she would just sit on the sun porch for hours and watch the birds feed in the birdhouse that she set up, while reading her stacks of magazines that she accumulated while away in New York and working on her plants both inside and outside. Shirley loved plants and flowers so much that her porch looked like a small nursery. Shirley was really happy that she was able to return back home to North Carolina. Unfortunately, due to her severe health issues she returned to New York several years ago for treatment and she was never able to make it back. Shirley departed this life leaving behind a host of relatives and loved ones. James Howard (Father)Jimmie Plummer (Husband), Deirdre E Plummer (Daughter), Karnod D Knowles Jr (Grandson). Siblings: James Daryl and Paula Howard, of New Jersey with children Erica Zachary Zakiyyah and Priya, Patricia Lane of North Carolina with Shawn and Guy, Tyrone (deceased) and Regina Lane of New Jersey with Ricky, Tyrone Jr, Quentin, Dominique and Mercedes. Extended siblings: Linda Ruffin, Marie Poole, Jessie Ray Ruffin, Brenda Ruffin (deceased), Janice Ruffin Barnes, Judy Ruffin Payton, Sarah Ruffin, Ricky Ruffin, Fred Ruffin, Keith Poole, Brian Poole and a great number of nieces, nephews and others in the Ruffin and Poole families. Inherited in-laws: Mary E. Moore (Mother), Siblings- in-law: Phillip and Felicia Plummer, Jane Taylor, Mary Ming and Christina Moore and a host of nieces and nephews.
