Special Info  Otis Danne Jr. was born on February 2, 1988 to Christine Grey and Otis Danne Sr. He entered this world at 2:45 a.m. at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. As a child, he loved watching movies, playing video games and was a huge wrestling fan. Otis was not into sports but loved watching basketball. He was an avid NY Knicks fan. As he got older, he went from watching the Knicks on the tv screen to watching live games at the stadium. This he enjoyed with his younger brother and friends. He was very loving and cared a great deal about other's; especially his friends and family. He found great pride in being of help to others. At a young age, Otis had a big heart. At the age of 7, he collected the names and shoe sizes of six of his classmates and convinced his father to buy sneakers for all 6 of them. This gesture of helping those he considered less fortunate and the belief of giving gifts to those he loved, followed him all throughout his life. Otis's first stop on his educational journey began at Get Set daycare, where he attended Pre-K through 2nd grade. Next he attended PS.276 for Elementary, then IS 68 and Flatbush SDA for Middle School. He was a proud graduate of Leon M. Goldstein high school. He earned his B.A. degree in Political Science from C.W. Post L.I.U. All throughout his educational journey he excelled in academics and knew the value of education. Otis loved children and always found himself working in positions that involved young people. His first job was working at Manhattan Beach Summer camp where he worked as a camp counselor. That summer experience confirmed his love and passion for young people and played a significant role in his career path and future youth related work. Otis went on to work at McDonalds from 2008 to 2019 as a District Manager, where he provided job opportunities for young people in the community while simultaneously working as a camp counselor every summer at Mill Basin Camp. It was at Mill Basin camp where he met the mother of his beloved child and formed lasting relationships with individuals that later joined his team and life's mission. Otis was blessed with a bouncing baby boy named Chase on June 7, 2013 and from that point forward, his life forever changed. Otis was in love with his son and took his role as a father very serious. Otis had big dreams and aspirations that surpassed the food and education industry. He also loved music, radio and management/production. His favorite artist was Bob Marley. You would often hear him blasting many of Marley's hits like "One love" and "Redemption song." It's of no surprise that Otis loved music. He was practically born into entertainment being that his father Otis Sr., was the owner of Earth Ruler sound system and Production Company. After spending many years learning and growing in the industry, Otis Jr. took over the family business, continuing the work already started. After he graduated college, he rebranded the company and launched something even bigger and greater; it became intergenerational. He was a true business man and formed Danne Promotions in 2019 to take on new endeavors that the community would benefit from. Within his company, he hosted galas, food distributions, back to school/toy drives, diabetes awareness events and so much more. We cannot forget the many opportunities Danne promotions provided for small businesses, local artists and entrepreneurs .He always wanted to give people an opportunity to flourish and showcase their talents. He encouraged his friends and loved one's to follow their dreams, giving rise to businesses like Chase's lemonade, Nyhammins catering Inc., Arts by Amber, Benafit and so much more. His company's motto is Plan, Promote and Enjoy! Otis worked tirelessly to provide for his family and when not in the office, you could catch him on the radio, twice a week on Caribbean Power Jam. He strategically used this platform to give artist, entrepreneurs, businesses and community members a platform to showcase their talents and to let their voices be heard. The cries of the community, confirmed his love and passion for political science. His goal to run for State Assembly was realized in 2021. He wanted to be known as someone that provided for the community! Otis also worked in Education as an Administrative Assistant at OWN charter school. He was a valued member of the school. He worked with the Middle Schoolers and wore many hats...He was the Admin, lunch coordinator, volleyball coach, yearbook committee member, just to name a few! It was very clear that his main goal was to give back to the community and he thought he would be most effective working with young people; especially those of color. Otis received many job opportunities during his time at OWN but didn't take it because it was never about the money for him; it was about giving back. While he was there, he strived to make sure that the students had a good senior year experience by choosing great venues for prom, senior trips, and made sure the senior activities were fun. He had a good rapport with the students and they viewed him as a big brother/mentor and for some, a surrogate dad. He even initiated applying for grants that would allow the students outside play. This was known as "Play street." He was a true problem solver. "If you don't want the problem fixed, don't tell Otis!"- Otis was known as a family man and worked really hard to provide for his family. He was the oldest of his siblings and always made sure he stayed close and connected to them. He was a good big brother. He picked up the slack whenever and wherever necessary. He definitely played a father role at times. He loved celebrating holidays with family. There were times when he organized trips for the family to Jamaica, and ensured that they all got together and were under one roof. Everyone knew that Otis was big on eating together as a family and if one person was missing, dinner could not be served. Otis had a strong love for his grandmothers. He would call them several times a day to check on them. He was a true protector and gave with his whole heart! It’s true that he loved many, but the love for his mother could move mountains. He was a big believer in his mother’s catering business (Nyammings catering) and served as a person she would discuss all her business ideas with. He sampled her dishes, gave her food ideas like “Stuffed shrimp” and even enjoyed visiting different restaurants together to try new foods. Their relationship was unbreakable and will be missed. Not only did he love his family, but also his pets. Nesta Marley and Reese's were two of many pets he cared for. On March 25, 2024, Otis went home to be with the Lord. Life is fleeting, but life in the Lord is eternal. Otis is survived by his parents Christine and Otis Sr., son Chase, 2 grandmothers, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of family members and friends. He will be terribly missed but affectionately remembered.
