Good evening everyone gathered here today and thank you for joining us in celebrating the life of Herberta also known as Eileen Layne.
Herberta/Auntie Eileen as some of us called her was born on June 26th1938 in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana. She was the third child of the late Maria Elizabeth (Elvira) Semple Layne & Robert Layne.
She was the loving sister of George Semple (Deceased), Elise David (Deceased), Cosmo Layne, & Ingram (Sammy) Layne.
Aunt of Barbara Cadogan, Philip David (deceased), Godey David, Mona Nedd, Joan Kingston, Colin David, Derrick David, Clyde David Jr. (deceased), Frank David (deceased), Elizabeth & Thomas David.
Paula Layne, Robin Layne, Rhue Rosa & Allison Loy.
Annee Lacon, Nadine Layne, Eddison Layne & Porscha (Ingrid) Myers.
Sister-in-law of Clyde David Sr. (Deceased), Gloria and Winied Layne.
Cousin of Bernice Lowe, The Bob-Semples, Semples, Johnsons, Blairs, Wades and many others. Besides her nieces and nephews Aunt Eleen had 25+ great nieces & 27+ great nephews.
She also had countless iends who will miss her dearly.
Aunt Eleen received her formal education at Mission Chapel School in New Amsterdam. Aſter completing school, she pursued cosmetology for a while and then became an Avon representative promoting Avon products.
Between hairdressing and Avon, she made many iends and did a lot of travelling.
Eleen eventually migrated to USA where she studied and became a nursing assistant. Eleen joined the 1199 labor union as a member and delegate. She traveled all over the country on union and political action business working at the election office during general election. Eleen was also a member of the Lodge Society... Aunt Eleen was a jovial person who love cooking, socializing and fashion. Whenever you visit her home, you never leave without her giving you something to carry with you. She had a great deal of faith and hope in everything that she did or believed. Oſtentimes she would say lile phrases that would have you wondering what she meant. She was very Whiy with her words and said exactly how she felt. She knew that God was ever present and he would always work things out.
