Special Info |
Margarette Beatrice Hayles was the fifth of eight children born to Wilford Stewart and Estella Lysaith on May 25, 1943, in Gordon Town, Hanover, Jamaica.
She attended the Watford Hill All Age School where she excelled academically. After all age school, Margarette Hayles went on to the prestigious North Western Academy in Montego Bay.
She attended the Watford Hill Baptist Church and at fourteen years old, she became a baptized member of the Unity Hall Open Bible Church. She was a stalwart in the church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and being secretary.
Margarette loved everyone and that love led to everyone’s burden becoming hers. That love led her to teaching JAMAL classes in the community and was normally called upon to eulogize community members who passed away.
She met and fell in love with Aldista Hayles and their union produced eight children, one of whom pre- deceased her. Throughout her beautiful life, Margarette fostered over twenty three people, some of whom are here to celebrate her life today.
In June of 1990, Margarette, her husband, and two youngest children migrated to the United States of
America. She became a member of the Rehoboth Open Bible Church in Brooklyn and spent over 20 years there. She looked forward to caribbean night, where she would unleash jokes to the congregation. In the latter years when she was unable to make the trip to Brooklyn, you would find her relaxed in her chair watching services online. She worked as a caregiver for many years. She aslo worked at a dress shop until she retired.
Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune have lost their biggest fan. She would always say to us, “These programs keep the brain sharp”
On July 7, 2024 between 9 pm amd 10pm, Our mom departed this life. She is in a better place. Praise God! In the words of her grand niece, Kayata McGann, “Aunty Tilly died the way she lived. Peacefully.”
She is survived by her husband, Aldista Hayles.
